ABOUT THE ARTIST

Sally Wyma is a Dallas based artist, exploring the connection between plants and human behavior through her primary use of oil paints.

While studying psychology and studio art at Trinity University, I became captivated by human behavior, particularly in regard to why we think, believe, and act the way we do. I paint flowers in an effort to explore the inherent dichotomy found in plants that mimics the complexities found in human nature. Plants produce beautiful and delicate flowers as an indication of an end to a cycle, a death within. Perhaps suffering necessitates beauty. Perhaps beauty exists to be beautiful and nothing more. I paint as a reminder to myself to find beauty in ordinary things; I hope my work proposes the same intention for the viewer while tandemly softening the space where it hangs, allowing us all to breathe deeply and focus on something beautiful.
